Postpartum Care

The Sacred Window

The first 40 days following birth marks a radical precious transition that cradles a mothers need for rest and rejuvenation. A woven space and time to strengthen the māmās armour.

From the waters of our puna, the wellspring of our ancient mātauranga,

Our tūpuna/ancestors honoured the many layers a māmā sacrificed journeying to the stars and back to bring her uri/newborn earth-side.

Our iwi/villages would celebrate and gather in communion to nurture, dance, sing, pray feed, warm, and korowai thy Mother in her most vulnerable tapu state. Allowing her to nestle into her healing cocoon to bond in synergy with her uri.

In modern westernised society, our Mothers often are grappled with the expectations of swiftly bouncing back straight after giving birth, navigating a realm of physical and emotional challenges that can lead to all sorts of imbalances ~ Postpartum depression, disconnection with their uri, themselves and extended whānau all whilst feeling so alone.

Yet when we embrace the commitment to prepare for our own healing and self nurturance, Acknowledging this is your sacred rite of passage passed from mother to mother, sister to sister, womb to womb. We are then able to open an internal invitation to experience and embark on a deep act of self reverence and self love to tend to the well-being of ourselves.

Mothers who are held with rested bodies, grounded bones, and nourished in warm love is what our loved ones will receive.
